Feb. 1st, 2012 @ 09:21 pm Would anyone like to bid on my bag of Guide goodies?
"Er ..." said Zarquon, "hello. Er, look, I'm sorry I'm a bit late. I've had the most ghastly time, all sorts of things cropping up at the last moment."

He seemed nervous of the expectant awed hush. He cleared his throat.

"Er, how are we for time?" he said, "have I just got a min-"

And so the Universe auction ended.
Anyway, I am selling a bag of Guide-related merchandise that was a prize in the quiz at the launch party of And Another Thing. It's on the dreaded eBay, here. Item 270902162283.

I'd be awfully grateful if anyone would like to bid on it, at all.

So long and sorry for all the spam.

Hello,

In the 2005 movie, when Trillian and Arthur are talking on the roof, a song is playing before the music is changed to instrumental - does anyone know the song that is being sung? Title/artist?

Thank you!!!

The guideslash comm (conveniently named for its association with The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams as well as slash and femmeslash fanfiction, fanart, and icons) has been sadly quiet as of late. Since it seems to be something that would (maybe, just maybe) fall under this comm's interests, I thought I'd spread the word that new content would be spectacularly welcome.

There's also an index for fic and art posted in 2003 through 2008, if you'd like to read through -- there's a lot of content there, put up by any number of talented people.

So, Hitchhiker slash fans, grab your towel and your electronic thumb and come on over!

Sep. 17th, 2008 @ 12:49 pm New Hitchhiker book in October next year
New Hitchhiker's author announced
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7619828.stm
Children's author Eoin Colfer has been commissioned to write a sixth instalment of the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series...

I feel sorry for Adams' family. I'm guessing they're still in the enormously deep financial hole that bopAd left them in when he unexpectedly died. Here's hoping this pulls them out of it.

Oh, and hoping that it doesn't suck of course, as well.

Apr. 28th, 2008 @ 11:27 pm a panic-reducing wallpaper
So I found this poster for the good ole 2005 Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy film, and desperately wanted a wallpaper version. So I gave it flying-nun-eqsue wings of navy on either side and stuck it on my desktop... but alas! The poster's colours were a little dull, and the portrait thing wasn't kind of working in a widescreen sense... so I hit the revamp button:

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

1440x900

My original post.

ETA: Sorry everyone, I obviously linked it wrong, it's all working fine now!

ETA 2: I lie. Photobucket is pulling some ridiculous stunt... I can't use thumbnail or direct links, they always direct me to the 320px thumb, so It's now linked to my Deviant Art post, click download on the left for full res.

Andy Baio's gotten a hold of an entire backup of an Infocom shared network drive from 1989, and it includes a look into the history of the aborted sequel, and a peek at what it would have looked like...
Milliways: Infocom's Unreleased Sequel to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
http://waxy.org/2008/04/milliways_infocoms_unreleased_sequel_to_hitchhikers_guide_to_the_galax/
From an anonymous source close to the company, I've found myself in possession of the "Infocom Drive" -- a complete backup of Infocom's shared network drive from 1989. This is one of the most amazing archives I've ever seen, a treasure chest documenting the rise and fall of the legendary interactive fiction game company. Among the assets included: design documents, email archives, employee phone numbers, sales figures, internal meeting notes, corporate newsletters, and the source code and game files for every released and unreleased game Infocom made.

So let's start with the most notorious -- Milliways: The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, the unreleased sequel to Infocom's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. For the first time, here's the full story: with never-before-seen design documents, internal emails, and two playable prototypes. Sit back, this might take a while.

How was your Towel Day everyone?
This year was my first one, and it was pretty cool! I searched but I was the only one in my university with a towel, which is sad, but next year I'll get my friends to celebrate it with me!
